Comics

I like drawing comics for fun! You can follow me at serenekitchenadventures on instagram and serenekitchen on webtoon. I currently have 2 series running titled Everdayisms – quick standalone stories about my life and Adventures in Scubadiving – a continuing story about experiences in Scubadiving and their holidays. How did you start?

I started by drawing my short adventures in Melbourne just using pencil on paper and published them on my Tumblr as a fun activity to start my mornings. It is a great way to relive your memories and I highly recommend it! I have since transitioned to making them digitally using a stylus and digital software. I was really surpised at how much my friends and family enjoyed them.

Which stories are your favourites?

I love, love, love all my microadventures that feature my friends and family that are in an A4 format. It is my preferred reading experience but I’m just old school like that. I’m very grateful for the online platforms that are catered to mobile reading.

How do you come up with your storylines?

Since they are based on my life, it’s pretty easy to pick and choose. The story generally comes out organically through casual conversations and gets subconsciously workshopped as it gets repeated. Reading and watching pop-culture works helps with putting a new spin on things and timing.

What are you most self-conscious about with your work?

My Grammar. Since I write as I go along whilst I draw, I do tend to make grammatical errors here and there.
